ADA Access Improvements

Project Update

We are excited to have the completion of ADA Access Improvements at Sammamish Landing! Construction of this phase began in summer 2017 and added an accessible walkway and stairs from East Lake Sammamish Parkway to the East Lake Sammamish Trail, right of way modifications with ADA parking, a turning lane and refuge island for pedestrian crossing, and the installation of a pre-fabricated restroom.

The stairs take you two-thirds of the way and join up with the accessible ramp and walkway from the Restroom Building to the County trail. This was designed to slow people down for a more safe crossing of the East Lake Sammamish Trail to Sammamish Landing Park.

Docks

A section of the south dock will be seasonally removed to prevent damage during the winter.

Phase II Improvements

Phase II improvements added a parking lot on City-owned parcels east of the Parkway and a designated crosswalk on East Lake Sammamish Parkway (ELSP).

Phase I Improvements

The construction of the first phase of improvements were completed in 2013. View the beach party video from the beach party held for the grand opening in July 2013.

The first phase was a modest attempt to open the park to the public with minimal improvements. Proposed improvements consist of two picnic shelters, a trail head, improvements to existing trails and access to existing pocket beaches. Other amenities include a portable restroom with an enclosure, site furnishings and opportunities for art and interpretive experiences. The two existing docks have also been replaced with floating docks to accommodate seasonal water fluctuations and be available for year-round use.

The Phase I development project was brought in-house as a cost savings measure. Design and construction documents for the project, with the exception of the docks, were completed in-house by the parks planning team. Most of the project, with the exception of the picnic shelters and docks, has been constructed in-house by the city’s Operations and Maintenance crew.

Access to the Park

The park is located at 4607 East Lake Sammamish Parkway NE. The parking lot is located to the east of East Lake Sammamish Parkway.

Project Summary

The Sammamish Landing is a 8.23 acre site located along the eastern shoreline of Lake Sammamish at the northwest corner of the City of Sammamish. It is the only stretch of land along the shoreline of Lake Sammamish that is in public ownership within the City limits. King County property and the East Lake Sammamish multi-use trail bisect the project site. The master plan (adopted in July 2010) was reviewed and coordinated with the County in an effort to incorporate the trail into the design and deliver a seamless experience to the park/trail user.

Goals and Benefits

  • To provide public access to Lake Sammamish.
  • To enhance and protect the environmentally sensitive shoreline areas.
