July 10, 2012

There will be a power outage in the area of NE 8th St/233rd Ave NE on Thursday (7/12) from 8 am to 4 pm while PSE is relocating the power lines. The power outage area is on 233rd Ave NE from Eastlake High School to NE 10th Pl, and on NE 8th St within 500 ft of 233rd intersection.  PSE has sent notification to impacted residents regarding the power outage.

July 6, 2012

Project construction is scheduled to start on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. PSE utility relocation work on south side of NE 8th St is scheduled to start on Saturday, July 7, 2012.


"This letter is to notify you that construction of the City’s NE 8th St/233rd Ave NE Intersection Improvement Project will begin on Wednesday, July 11th.   The allowable construction working hours for the contractor is from 7 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday, with occasionally Saturday work between limited hours.  This project is scheduled to be substantially completed by the beginning of September before school starts.  During construction, while crews will work with residents to ensure local access to s is maintained, you may experience delay going thru this intersection.  Alternate routes are advised to be used during construction hours if feasible.

Crews working for Puget Sound Energy will be working on the weekend of July 6th & 7th to relocate an underground power vault. Their work is limited to the southwest corner of the intersection.

At their June 18, 2012 meeting, the Sammamish City Council approved awarding the construction contract to Award Construction, Inc. of Bellingham, WA.

January 23, 2012

At their January 17, 2012 meeting, the Sammamish City Council approved awarding a design contract to the Jacobs Engineering Group.

Goals and Benefits

This project is being constructed in conjunction with Lake Washington School District's work to complete a secondary access to Eastlake High School. The new roundabout will improve traffic at the new entrance to the high school.  The intersection improvements will provide traffic calming benefits along with a safer pedestrian crossing.

$777,000 is budgeted in the Transportation Capital Fund.

Public Involvement

Notice of the proposed improvements to this intersection were included with the Lake Washington School District's public mailing for the improvements to 233rd Avenue NE. This notice was mailed in 2011 to all residents within 500 feet of the intersection and the southern portion of 233rd Avenue NE.
