Notice of Non-Specific Threat at Eastside Catholic School

Release Date: February 14, 2019

Dear Sammamish Residents:

It has been brought to our attention that a non-specific but serious threat against Eastside Catholic School was made on the image messaging app, Snapchat. In response, the school’s leadership immediately contacted law enforcement to investigate the threat.

The situation is being investigated by school authorities and Sammamish Police. Threats against schools are treated very seriously, and students who are determined to have made such threats face serious consequences.

This is an opportune time to discuss this situation with your children and emphasize that there are severe consequences of such actions, even if the threat is made in jest. Please also remind your children about the importance of reporting any suspicious or potentially threatening activity to an adult as soon as possible.

Please know that the safety of our community is our primary concern and any threats of violence, even if deemed not credible, are taken very seriously. As a precautionary measure, and to reassure the students and staff at Eastside Catholic School, there will be increased police presence at school on Friday as part of law enforcement’s standard response procedures.

We are grateful for the cooperation and assistance of the Sammamish Police, and the staff and students of Eastside Catholic School.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sammamish Police at 425-295-0770, or the City of Sammamish Communications Manager at 425-606-7435.
