Sew A Pouch: Make Your Own Chinese Hebao

Join the Arts Commission and sewist Miki Hau on October 8, 2026 from 6:30 pm - 8pm at the Beaver Lake Lodge.

Explore the art of making a tiny pouch inspired by the Chinese hebao. Sew, decorate, and fill your pouch with a little scent to create something special to take home. Adults and older kids can try simple hand sewing, while younger makers can create a no-sew version. No sewing experience needed—just come ready to make something fun with your hands!

About the artist:

Miki Hau is a Chinese sewist, patternmaker, and founder of WildCress, an independent sewing pattern studio. She designs contemporary sewing patterns, researches historical garments and textile traditions, and creates beginner-friendly educational resources that make sewing approachable for a wide range of makers. Through workshops, writing, and pattern design, Miki enjoys sharing both practical sewing skills and the cultural stories that inspire her work. Her projects span garment design, community workshops, and creative education, all rooted in a belief that sewing is a tool for curiosity, creativity, and connection.
