City sends letter to Republic Services detailing expectations

Missed garbage collections have had a significant impact on our community, and we hear your frustrations. While we fully respect the rights and concerns of unionized workers, the ongoing service disruption is unacceptable—especially during the summer months, when missed pickups pose serious health and quality-of-life concerns. City staff have worked quickly to organize drop-off events to help alleviate the burden, and we continue to advocate on your behalf. We’ve read every complaint and share your concerns. We’ve sent a formal letter to Republic Services outlining our expectations, including customer credits and enforcement of contract provisions—such as penalties that will help offset the City’s staffing and operational costs for these events. We are also pushing for additional drop-off opportunities, including weekend availability. Please know we are actively holding Republic Services accountable and will continue to fight for the reliable service our residents deserve.
