Lunar New Year 2022
In order to protect the community and mitigate risks associated with COVID-19, the committee has decided to postpone our Sammamish Lunar New Year event on February 5, 2022. This was a difficult decision by the committee who tried as much as possible to safely offer an in-person event by moving it from Central Washington University – Sammamish (indoors) to Sammamish Commons Plaza (outdoor) hoping to have a more open and spread-out event. However, the safety of our residents is of the utmost importance. The unknown trajectory of the new variant and the impossibility of maintaining safe social distancing at this popular event weighed heavily in the decision. This was not a decision that was made lightly, the Committee has the deepest regret that the community will not be able to come together to celebrate in-person during this challenging time.
We recognize the importance of Lunar New Year and the value of bringing the community together to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere this celebration brings. The committee plan is only postponing this event and will be offering a combined Lunar New Year and Dragon Festival to celebrate Asian Cultures and Traditions on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Please mark your calendars, detailed information will be published at a later date.
Join us in celebrating the Year of the Tiger, featuring the diversely talented international community of Sammamish and activities centered around Asian culture and ceremonial traditions. Event highlights include a vibrant performance by the International Lion Dance Team, a martial arts demonstration, music, dance, visual arts and a variety of interactive booths for kids. This event is free and open to audiences of all ages! This is an open air event and dress warm for the weather and masks are required to attend. Wishing New Year happiness to all!
