Resources for Extreme Heat

The mild climate in our region makes people more sensitive to heat, causing a spike in reported serious health problems including heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure.

There are plenty of places in Sammamish where community members can keep cool. If you need a cooling center, you can visit any of the locations below:

  • Sammamish City Hall (801 228th Ave SE, Sammamish, 98075) 8:30AM-5PM (M-F)

  • Sammamish YMCA (831 228th Ave SE, Sammamish, 98075) 5AM-9PM (M, T, Th, F) 5AM-9PM (Wed.) 7AM-7PM (Sat), 8AM-6PM (Sun)

  • Sammamish Library (825 228th Ave SE, Sammamish, 98075) 1PM-8PM (W) 10AM-5PM (Th-F)

Here are a few tips to help you beat the heat:

  • Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day.
  • If air conditioning is not available in your home, go to a cooling center.
  • Take cool showers or baths.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Use your oven less to help reduce the temperature in your home.
  • If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors during the midday heat, if possible.
  • Check on family members, older adults, and neighbors.
  • Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
