Immigrant and Refugee Resources

This page was last updated on January 21, 2026.

The City Council reaffirmed the City’s support for our immigrant and refugee neighbors on April 15, 2025, by adopting Resolution R2025-1105. This Resolution acknowledges the significant contributions of immigrants and refugees to the Sammamish’s economic, civic, and cultural life and reinforces our identity as a welcoming community. It also ensures that no person accessing City of Sammamish programs or services is required to disclose their immigration status, and that any such information, if obtained, is treated as confidential and sensitive, consistent with the Keep Washington Working Act and other applicable state laws.

If you ever feel you are in immediate danger, please call 911. If you would like to share specific concerns or report activity you observed in Sammamish, you may contact the police non-emergency line at 206-296-3311 so it can be reviewed and addressed appropriately.

Know Your Rights

Everyone has rights under the U.S. Constitution, regardless of immigration status. This guidance from the Washington State Attorney General’s Office will help you understand these rights if you are approached by federal law enforcement agents, such as Immigration Custom Enforcement (ICE). It also describes what to do if you are arrested, detained, or taken into custody by federal agents.

Local Resources

If you need assistance with other needs, such as housing, food, mental health, aging, and more, please visit the Human Services webpage. The City collaborates with local and regional nonprofits that help individuals and families regain well-being and maintain an improved quality of life, and we are available to help connect you with these resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Sammamish Police Department’s role in immigration enforcement?

The Police Department does not enforce federal civil immigration laws or policy. State law and department policy prohibit Sammamish Police officers from asking or collecting information about a person’s immigration or citizenship status and officers may not detain a person solely to determine immigration status. If there is a criminal investigation of a person, it is possible immigration status may be gathered during the criminal investigation.

Will the police report me or give my information to immigration authorities?

Under state law and King County policy, the Department does not collect information on immigration status, so it is unlikely the Department can share immigration status. Federal law requires that immigration status be provided to federal agencies, if requested. However, state and local police agencies are not required to take any action based on immigration status or to provide law enforcement support to federal agencies by detaining a person or participating in a raid related to immigration status.

Will the police help immigration officials with raids or other operations?

The Sammamish Police Department does not enforce federal civil immigration policy, including raids, arrests or other enforcement action based on federal civil immigration laws.

Is the Flock Safety camera system installed in the city?

No. The Flock Safety camera system is not installed in the city and there are no plans to install the system in the future.
