TR-54 228th Avenue SE & SE 40th Street Improvements
Summary
As the principal arterial street in the City, 228th Avenue SE is vitally important to residents as a major route for getting on and off of the Sammamish Plateau. The road runs north-south through the heart of Sammamish and provides access to numerous schools, parks, and commercial and residential facilities. Its intersection with SE 40th Street is located adjacent to new high school and elementary school developments proposed by the Issaquah School District. To mitigate the impacts of increased vehicle traffic, the City plans to implement the use of a Continuous Green "T" intersection. This configuration utilizes a raised center median and striping to physically separate the southbound through traffic from the other movements at the intersection. Additional improvement include modifications to the median on SE 40th Street, creation of a center turn lane on 228th Avenue SE, and widening of the asphalt to the west, south of SE 40th Street, to allow extension of center turn lane on 228th. This project is part of the City's Transportation Improvement Plan. For more information about this plan, please visit:
