Update on Garbage Service

Release Date: February 14, 2019

As of Thursday, 2/14, Republic and Waste Management are attempting to service all customers according to the regular collection schedule. Depending on neighborhood road conditions, some households may continue to experience missed collections if drivers are unable to safely navigate trucks in icy conditions.

Due to the regional demand for additional garbage trucks and drivers during this snow event, opportunities for make-up collection are limited. Some neighborhoods may receive robocalls from Republic to put out their bins for unscheduled collection if a suitable make-up collection opportunity has been identified.  Otherwise, collection will proceed according to the regular schedule. For households that have missed collection for up to two consecutive weeks, both Republic and Waste Management will collect up to triple the amount of garbage and recycling.

In the meantime, here are some tips for managing buildup of waste and recycling at your home:

  • Double bag your excess garbage to ward off critters and place the bags next to your regular garbage bin on your collection day.
  • Use your yard waste or recycling bins to store garbage. On your collection day, be sure to clearly label each bin as containing garbage. If you already have recycling or yard waste in your bins, consider that it may be easier to store this material for collection at a later date.
  • The recycling & garbage transfer station in Factoria (Bellevue) is currently accepting drop-off material. Households typically pay about $25 to utilize this service. For more information, please see: https://kingcounty.gov/depts/dnrp/solid-waste/facilities/transfer/factoria-transfer.aspx
