2026 ADA Barrier Removal Project

Summary

The City of Sammamish 2026 ADA Barrier Project consists of upgrading non-compliant ADA facilities within the City’s right-of-way to meet compliancy. The planned work includes upgrading 30 pedestrian curb ramps and adding new roadway striping at 13 separate intersections within the Klahanie Neighborhood to be upgraded to meet ADA compliancy. The intersections are:

  • SE Klahanie Blvd & 252nd Place SE
  • Challenger Elementary (East Entrance)
  • Challenger Elementary (West Entrance)
  • Tanglewood Condominiums (East Entrance)
  • Tanglewood Condominiums (West Entrance)
  • 256th Ave SE & SE 37th Way
  • 254th Ave SE & SE 36th Ct
  • 257th Ave SE & SE 37th Way
  • 257th Ave SE & SE 37th St
  • 259th Ave SE & SE 39th Way
  • 259th Ave SE & SE 39th St
  • 258th Way SE & SE 39th St

The project will also include replacing sections of damaged curb, gutter, and sidewalk along NE 39th Street and NE 14th Drive. These items were  identified via SeeClickFix (SCF) requests and were added to the scope of work due to their potential to create larger issues in the near future, requiring more expensive and timely repairs.

This project is part of the City of Sammamish ADA Transition Plan, which was created in an effort to make Sammamish public facilities and programs accessible to all. The program aims to identify barriers which impede access to City buildings, parks, and pedestrian facilities in the public right-of-way. ADA hazards can exist in sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, crosswalks, staircases, curb ramps, push buttons, and ADA parking stalls. For more information on the ADA Transition Plan, visit the link below.

The planning process includes identification of physical barriers, prioritization of these barriers, and a schedule for barrier removal over time. The barriers are identified using the City’s ADA Hazard GIS database and by visual observation by City staff and community members. Areas with a higher concentration of ADA hazards, larger volumes of pedestrian traffic, and close proximity to public facilities are prioritized.
