Project Overview

Opened in the fall of 2011, Evans Creek Preserve (ECP) is located in unincorporated King County on the city of Sammamish’s northern border. This open space was developed into a park with trails, a parking lot, informational kiosks, and a tool shed for volunteer work which was completed in 2014.

This current project will address trail improvements between Evans Creek Preserve (ECP) and two adjacent City-owned parcels. This project aims to improve connectivity, address maintenance challenges, and enrich the recreational experience of the community. The proposed trail work will be the first significant addition to the Preserve trail system since 2014. The project focuses on creating a new trail that will connect the southeast portion of the Preserve to the adjacent upper plateau neighborhoods.

The project consists of three work areas.  Trail improvements on the two City of Sammamish park parcels will fall under the City of Sammamish jurisdiction (Work Area 3).  The ECP parcels (Work Areas 1 and 2) are within King County jurisdiction, as they are outside the City limits.  While King County will conduct the Clearing and Grading Review for Work Areas 1 and 2, King County will allow the City to conduct SEPA for the entire project.

Permitting

King County holds permitting authority for Work Areas 1 and 2 within Evans Creek Preserve, while the City of Sammamish has jurisdiction over Work Area 3. King County allowed the City to conduct SEPA for this entire project. PRF will submit the Clearing and Grading Review for Work Areas 1 and 2 to King County this fall/winter.
