Project Overview

New trail connections and improvements are underway to link Evans Creek Preserve (ECP) with the Williams Pipeline Trail, expanding access and strengthening the City’s trail network. This project will close a nearly two-mile gap, resulting in approximately 7.5 miles of continuous trail from Northeast 8th Street and Evans Creek Preserve.

Phase 1 of the project was completed in April 2026. The 0.83-mile loop trail marks the first addition to the Preserve’s trail system in over a decade and expands access from nearby neighborhoods. This effort reflects collaboration among City staff, consultants, and volunteers who contributed thousands of hours supporting trail construction and restoration. The loop trail, now open to the public, is a pedestrian-only path designed to follow the natural contours of the landscape. It provides a sustainable, low impact route that minimizes environmental disturbance while allowing visitors to explore this forested open space within the City.

Evans Creek Preserve is a 213.2-acre open space located in unincorporated King County along Sammamish’s northern border. This project’s addition of 36.5 acres expands ECP to approximately 250 acres. Developed as a public park with trails and supporting amenities, it remains a valued destination for walking, enjoying nature, and quiet recreation.

Permitting

The project spans three work areas across City and King County jurisdictions. Work Area 3 (on City-owned parcels) is permitted by the City of Sammamish. Work Areas 1 and 2 (within ECP) are permitted by King County. The City is leading SEPA review for the entire project, while King County will complete Clearing and Grading review for Work Areas 1 and 2.
