SE 24th St and 244th Ave SE All-Way Stop

What is happening?

Currently the intersection of SE 24th St and 244th Ave SE is a two-way stop, with stop signs only on the legs of 244th Ave SE. The City will be adding stop signs and stop bars to the legs of SE 24th St, therefore converting this into an all-way stop in July 2023 in order to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Why is this intersection being changed?

This intersection is seeing increasingly long delays as the city continues to grow. Drivers looking turn left from northbound 244th Ave SE to westbound SE 24th St often see significant delays during peak hours when schools are in session.  By converting this to an all-way stop, the traffic will be better distributed and prevent a long backup on one leg of this intersection.

Additionally, during peak hours of traffic this intersection sees significant pedestrian traffic. The change to an all-way stop will provide safer crossing conditions for pedestrians.

How will this be implemented?

Since this is a new traffic control change, the City is taking measures to make this change as smooth as possible to all road users. The image below shows what will be added, including the necessary advance warning signs. Additionally, the city will place variable message sign (VMS) boards to notify drivers before this change is done and after. Please be cautious and slow down when approaching this intersection after this change is implemented.
