CITY OF SAMMAMISH ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING COMMISSIONER’S COMMENTS

SAMMAMISH –  The City of Sammamish is issuing this statement to address comments made by a member of the city Planning Commission during a recent public meeting. The opinions expressed by the Commissioner do not reflect the values or views of the City of Sammamish, the City Council, or City leadership.

While we acknowledge the Commissioner’s right to free speech, we were shocked to hear the comments made and we strongly condemn them. These comments do not represent our city or community. The City of Sammamish is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where hate has no place.

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are fundamental principles that the City of Sammamish and the City Council actively support. Our city has worked tirelessly to establish robust initiatives and programs that promote these values within our community.

Today, Mayor Clark accepted the Commissioner’s resignation effective immediately.

The City of Sammamish remains steadfast in its dedication to preserving the trust and confidence our residents have placed in their elected officials. We appreciate the support and understanding of our community as we address this matter promptly and diligently. Rest assured that the City of Sammamish will continue its commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all residents.
