The Town Center Plan aims to create a vibrant urban gathering place by integrating commercial, recreational, cultural, and personal services. It emphasizes the preservation of scenic views, the enhancement of the city's distinctive character, and sustainability. The plan also focuses on diversifying housing choices in Sammamish, supporting workers and businesses, and creating spaces for celebration and civic engagement.

We heard you! Sammamish wants more for the community

The original Town Center Plan was developed through extensive public outreach and participation, including over 30 public meetings, open houses, surveys, design charrettes, and other opportunities for public input. The collaborative approach ensured the plan reflected the community's vision and aspirations.

Updating the Town Center Plan will help bring the community’s goals to life, including:

  • A town square for gathering with friends, festivals, and other civic and cultural events
  • Retail, services, and restaurants
  • Housing options for a wide array of life phases and lifestyles
  • New, local employment opportunities
  • Additional parks and trails, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle connectivity

There are shops and services already interested in getting established in Town Center. Watch for announcements about upcoming  business openings!  Updates on Town Center projects in the works can be found on the main Town Center page.

Public Space, Parks, and Trails

Sammamish’s vision for the Town Center emphasizes interconnected public and private open spaces including:

  • an active central plaza
  • less formal gathering areas
  • quiet residential courts
  • beautiful open spaces

Additionally, community members continue to emphasize the importance of public recreational and community facilities, such as gymnasiums, performing arts centers, and community centers.

Sammamish Commons

With the addition of the King County Library branch and the Sammamish Community & Aquatic Center to the area adjacent to City Hall, the Sammamish Commons and nearby amenities have become a vibrant civic hub.

Town Square

Dotted with bustling storefronts, cafes, and businesses spilling into the public realm, and opening onto the Town Center’s premier park, the Town Square is envisioned as an active open space and the heart of the city.

Green Spine

The Town Center Plan recommends a pedestrianized urban pathway, extending from the Lower Commons to Southeast 4th Street and moving north through the Urban Core, to connect the civic hub and Urban Core area. This feature would provide an organizing structure for new development, act as a foundation for a dedicated non-motorized trail, add visual and recreational amenity, and mitigate stormwater runoff. In doing so, this “Green Spine” would help solidify the Town Center as the sustainable and attractive heart of Sammamish.

The Atlanta Beltline is a multimodal green corridor that both unifies and beautifies the city.
