Site Construction Protections
During construction, protections measures are required to ensure that trees survive and sediment does not transfer into local streams, lakes, and wetlands.
Tree survival is especially important to preserve the aesthetic, ecological, and economic benefits the urban forest of Sammamish, which includes:
- Providing habitat for wildlife
- absorbing greenhouse gas emissions
- Stabilizing and enriching the soil
- Slowing runoff from precipitation and reducing soil erosion
- Improving air quality
- Improving water quality
- Providing visual relief and screening buffers
Fencing is to be installed five fee from the drip line of a tree's canopy during construction, to prevent compacting root zones, drying out soils, and keeping equipment from colliding with the tree.
Projects are now required to submit a Site Protection Plan that clearly shows where this tree protection fencing is to be installed during construction. Additionally, any site clearing or grading work is restricted to the area within the designated clearing & grading limits.
