City of Sammamish Canopy Cover Assessment

Sammamish's Urban Forest CanopyAs part of the Urban Forest Management Plan, the City of Sammamish worked with the University of Washington's Urban Ecology Research Lab and the GIS team at the Davey Resource Group to complete a full canopy cover assessment. The purpose of a canopy cover assessment is to better understand the City's urban forest resources, establish a benchmark against which the City can measure its future progress in meeting the goals established in the Urban Forest Management Plan, and develop tools that help the City make better decisions about tree management.

Using the data gathered from the canopy cover assessment, Davey Resource Group has developed a "StoryMap" that presents the canopy data in an interactive way. The StoryMap includes sections on the tree canopy, forest fragmentation, tree canopy health, priority planting areas, and more.
